AMMAN, Jordan, April 24 (NNN-PETRA) – Jordan, on Tuesday, launched a campaign to vaccinate children at the Al Azraq camp for Syrian refugees, against measles after three cases were reported there.
Health Ministry spokesperson, Hatem Azrui, said, all children in the refugee camp, located some 70 kilometres to the east of the Jordanian capital of Amman, will be vaccinated.
He said, the campaign is being implemented in cooperation with the World Health Organisation, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, and the International Migration Organisation.
Azrui said, 32 teams are working on the vaccination at the camp, noting that, 19,000 children will benefit from it.
He added that, the campaign is an immediate response after three cases of measles were reported inside the camp.
No case of measles has been reported in Jordan since 2014. Since the start of the national vaccination campaign in 1979, Jordan has succeeded in getting rid of many diseases, mainly polio.
According to the 2018 official figures, there are 31,800 residents living inside the camp, the majority of whom are women and children.– NNN-PETRA
