Kenya: 8 dead after truck slammed pedestrians  in Migori town, 3 in critical condition

MIGORI (Kenya), April 9 (NNN-KBC) — Eight people have been confirmed dead after a lorry Saturday morning lost control and crashed pedestrians in the busy Migori town.

According to Migori county police commander Mark Wanjala, scores were injured after the driver of the truck that was ferrying rice veered off the Migori- Isebania highway ramming into a bodaboda shade.

Six adults and a child died on the spot with fears that the death toll could go up. Three are in critical condition.

Kanu Chairman Gideon Moi described the tragedy as heartbreaking. The former Baringo Senator who took to his Twitter account to condole with the affected families urged motorists to drive carefully over this busy Easter weekend.

He at the same time called on relevant authorities to equally escalate inspections and institute other traffic safety measures to avoid loss of lives.

“I am deeply saddened to hear about the tragic accident in Migori County. I cannot even begin to imagine the pain and sorrow the families of the victims must be feeling right now. My heart goes out to the families of the victims during this difficult time” he said.

He appealed “I equally urge motorists to be careful on the road and the relevant authorities to equally escalate inspections and institute other traffic safety measures to avoid loss of lives particularly this Easter season”. — NNN-KBC
