PIURA (Peru), April 9 (NNN-ANDINA) — Pres Dina Boluarte announced that the Executive Branch will allocate S/500 million (about US$133 million) for the region of Piura, with the aim of addressing the emergency caused by heavy rains in northern Peru.
The investment was announced after the working meeting held at the Sectoral Emergency Operations Center (COES) in Piura.
“The Ministry of Economy and Finance and this Government have approved the investment of S/4 billion (about 1.06 billion) to address the effects of the El Niño phenomenon. Besides, S/500 million is being allocated to address such decisive and repetitive issue summer after summer,” she told Piura Governor Luis Neyra.
Likewise, the country’s top official underscored that regional governor and mayors rely on resources to respond to the emergency.
“Such budget will be returned when the money on their accounts has been exhausted,” the President said.
“We are coordinating with the regional and local governments, entrepreneurs, the private sector, and the society in general. Only in this way can we address the challenges of this emergency in the north,” she added.
On the other hand, the dignitary referred to the machinery that has been brought to the area to clean and drain the affected areas in this region.
Moreover, Boluarte stated that BAP Pisco vessel will set sail on April 10 carrying 1,000 tons of humanitarian aid.
“Brothers and sisters from Piura, we are assisting you, you are not alone, and we will continue to do so until the rainy season ends. Besides, the Executive Branch has coordinated with the regional and local governments, as well as with local engineers in the area, to provide a definitive solution to the issue of the drainage system and the Piura River,” she added.
Meanwhile, Ministers of State arrived in Piura to carry out actions aimed at assisting the population and the areas affected by rains and floods.
Defense Minister Jorge Chavez pointed out that, in the coming days, representatives of the Executive Branch will accelerate in situ the implementation of the actions promoted by their sectors in the face of this emergency.
Chavez noted that heavy rains continue to fall; therefore, according to President Boluarte’s mandate, further actions must be taken by the sectors of Defense, Housing, Agrarian Development, Economy, Transportation and Communications, and Production.
According to the government official, said actions will be complemented by the work of the Ministries of Education, Health, and Labor.
Moreover, the minister announced that aid will continue to be delivered to the victims by air and sea.
In turn, Housing Minister Hania Perez de Cuellar pointed out that more than 170 machines have been deployed in Piura, 120 of which are motorized pumps, provided by the Central Government and by the business sector.
In addition, the Cabinet member stated that an additional 200 machines will arrive in Piura aboard the ship Pisco.
The minister affirmed that more than a million liters of water have been drained, an amount that she described as insufficient when compared to the magnitude of rainfall. — NNN-ANDINA
