World Under 20 Athletics championships in Cali, Colombia
LIMA, April 6 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Lima, Peru’s capital, has withdrawn from hosting the 2024 World Under 20 Athletics Championships due to political instability.
Peruvian Athletics Federation has informed World Athletics that recent political instability and social unrest, as well as natural disasters in Peru, have left the federation and the local organising committee unable to stage next year’s event
World Athletics is in discussion with a replacement host for next year’s event and will provide more information in due course.
The World U20 Championships were to be held in the South American city on Aug 26-31, 2024.
Kenya hosted the delayed 2020 championship in 2021 event before Cali, Colombia staging the 2022 showpiece. — NNN-AGENCIES
