TUNIS, April 6 (NNN-KBC) — CAF Executive represented by its President Dr. Patrice Motsepe has unanimously endorsed their support of Morocco’s bid to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside its Mediterranean neighbours Spain and Portugal.
This came during Wednesday’s Confederation of African Football meeting held via video conference.
All members reaffirmed their full support for Morocco’s nomination as Africa’s candidate nation to stage the 2030 football bonanza.
This comes barely a month since King Mohammed VI announced the North African country interest in hosting FIFA World Cup in his message during the Excellency Award in Kigali.
Morocco which is also in the race to stage the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament will become the 2nd African nation to host World Cup after South Africa in 2010 should its joint bid approved by FIFA.
Other two joint bids for 2030 FIFA World Cup include Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Greece as well as CONMEBOL’s ticket of Uruguay, Paraguay, Argentina and Chile with the winner set to be announced late next year.
2026 FIFA World Cup which will feature 48 teams for the 1st time will be staged jointly by the USA, Mexico and Canada. — NNN-KBC
