SEOUL, Apr 5 (NNN-YONHAP) – South Korea’s imported car sale fell in single figures in Mar, from a year earlier, despite its growth on a monthly basis, industry data showed today.
The number of imported vehicles sold here stood at 23,840 in Mar, down 4.3 percent from a year ago, according to the Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association (KAIDA).
Compared to the previous month, the number increased 10.3 percent last month due to the launch of new models.
German carmaker, Mercedes-Benz, ranked first in terms of automotive sales here, among foreign companies, by selling 6,533 units last month.
Another German carmaker BMW came next with a domestic sale of 5,664 units, followed by Audi with 2,260 units, Volvo with 2,156 units and Lexus with 1,376 units.
The number of European models sold here was 19,933 in Mar, accounting for 83.6 percent of the total. Japanese and U.S. brands recorded the market shares of 9.4 percent and 7.0 percent each.
For the first three months of this year, the imported vehicle sales totalled 61,684 units, down 0.1 percent compared to the same period of last year.– NNN-YONHAP
