LIMA, April 5 (NNN-ANDINA) — In a plenary session on Tuesday, most Parliament members voted to reject an impeachment motion against President Dina Boluarte promoted by leftist parties.
Just 37 lawmakers voted in favor of the motion and 64 voted against, while 10 lawmakers abstained to reject the proposal.
It must be noted that a minimum of 50 votes were required to move the political trial forward, that is, at least 40% of qualified legislators, out of a total of 124.
The motion proposed to declare the “permanent moral incapacity” of the President of the Republic, in accordance with the provisions of Article 113.2 of the Constitution of Peru, on charges tied to the deaths of citizens during protests held across the country.
The person in charge of supporting the presidential impeachment motion was Cambio Democratico (Democratic Change) party Congressman Hamlet Echeverria.
Afterwards, lawmakers from other parliamentary groups presented their arguments in favor and against.
After the voting, Peru Libre (Free Peru) party Congresswoman Kelly Portalatino presented a request to reconsider the vote on the motion against the Head of State, which received 67 votes against. Therefore, it was dismissed. — NNN-ANDINA
