LIMA, April 3 (NNN-ANDINA) — On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the establishment of comprehensive strategic partnership between Peru and China, the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted various aspects of it.
The ministry stressed that the Asian country has been Peru’s first trading partner since 2014.
Last year, the trade balance between the two countries registered US$36.5 billion, which recorded a US$5 billion surplus for Peru, following the signing of a free trade agreement between the two nations, which took place in 2010.
China ranks eighth in terms of foreign investment in Peru, with US$1.1 billion, according to figures released by Peru’s Private Investment Promotion Agency (ProInversion).
The areas in which investment is more promiment are communications (US$942.4 million), mining (US$157.8 million) and construction (US$7.2 million).
In addition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs underscored that, within the framework of bilateral cooperation between Peru and China, the latter has granted US$18.7 million for the construction of the National Emergency Operations Center.
Similarly, it highlighted the donations that China has given to the South American country since the COVID-19 pandemic began, which amounted to about US$7 million. — NNN-ANDINA
