Peru, UK Defense Ministries sign Memorandum of Understanding

LIMA, April 3 (NNN-ANDINA) — The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Peru and the Ministry of Defence of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland signed a memorandum of understanding to establish the scope of cooperation in the sphere of defense.

The memorandum also has as purpose that cooperation will be carried out on the basis of the principles of equality, reciprocity, and mutual benefit, which promote friendly relations in the military field.

Among the cooperation areas involved in the treaty, those standing out are the exchange of experiences and knowledge in the field of defense; the promotion of mutual visits by sector authorities, military personnel, and/or specialists; the strengthening of bilateral exchange in areas related to military education; among others.

The ceremony was led by Peruvian Deputy Defense Polices Minister, Jorge Luis Chaparro; and UK Ambassador to Peru, Gavin Cook.

Also present at the event were Director for International Relations at the Defense Ministry, Diplomatic Service Minister, Augusto Cabrera; and UK Defense Attaché in Colombia and Peru, British Army Colonel George Maund. — NNN-ANDINA
