KUALA LUMPUR, April 23 (NNN-BERNAMA) – The spectrum of defence cooperation, particularly in the aspects of joint training and defence technology transfer, was among matters discussed at a meeting between the defence ministers of Malaysia and Russia today.
In a statement issued here today, the Defence Ministry said the meeting between Malaysia’s Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu and his Russian counterpart Gen Sergei Shoigu was held in conjunction with the working visit of Mohamad to Moscow from April 22 to 25.
“The official working visit is seen as an important platform for further defining the commitment in strengthening the network of cooperation and defence industry between the two countries,” it said.
Mohamad also met representatives of Rostec Corporation and Irkut Corporation apart from visiting several defence industry companies in Russia.
He is scheduled to give a talk entitled “The Aftermath of ISIS’s Defeat in Syria and Iraq, Its Implications” at the 8th Moscow Conference on International Security (MCIS).
The Malaysian delegation included Chief of Air Force Gen Tan Sri Affendi Buang, Malaysian Ambassador to Russia Datuk Mat Dris Yaacob, and director-general of Defence Intelligence Lt Gen Datuk Sheikh Mohsein Sheikh Hasan.
