SANTIAGO, March 22 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — Chile´s Agriculture Minister Esteban Valenzuela confirmed the second case of bird flu in an egg-producing company based in the southern region of Maule.
The industrial facility is located in an agricultural school in the municipality of Linares, so it was necessary to cull 4,000 to 5,000 laying hens.
Chile´s Agriculture and Livestock Service (SAG) reported the first bird flu outbreak last week in a commercial plant in the commune of Rancagua, O’Higgins Region. Local authorities immediately suspended eggs and white meat exports for 28 days as safety measure.
According to Valenzuela, this first outbreak was controlled, so the virus failed to spread to other places. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
