Montreal, April 23 (NNN-ONA) — Canadian authorities have evacuated more than 1,500 people. As more as 600 military personnel have been deployed to help the governments of Quebec and New Brunswick, which have seen snow-melting spring floods in eastern Canada from Ottawa River in eastern Ontario to the St. Jean River in New Brunswick.
The governments of Quebec and New Brunswick called on the military to help them. About 200 troops were deployed in Quebec on Saturday evening and another 400 on Sunday, particularly in Gatineau, near the capital Ottawa and Laval in northern Montreal and the Trois-Rivieres between Montreal and Quebec.
In 2017 spring, eastern Canada witnessed the worst floods in a quarter of a century, causing severe damage and evacuating thousands of people in an area stretching from Ontario to New Brunswick.
