ANKARA, Turkey, April 21 (NNN-ANADOLU) – Turkey’s Defence Ministry said on Saturday that, four Turkish soldiers were killed and six others injured in operation against Kurdistan militants near the border with Iraq.
A military base was attacked on Friday night in Cukurca district, in Turkey’s south-eastern province of Hakkari, Demiroren News Agency reported.
The Turkish military responded immediately with a “large-scale” and intense strike.
“The terrorists came under heavy fire from Turkish air operations and fire support,” the ministry said.
The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), listed as a terrorist organisation by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU, resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July, 2015, after a brief reconciliation period.
The Turkish military has been carrying out anti-terror operations against the PKK in northern Iraq since then, with main focus on Qandil region, where the group’s main base is located.– NNN-ANADOLU
