LIMA, March 4 (NNN-XINHUA) — The Peruvian government terminated the duties of its consul general in Mexico City amid political tension between the two countries, official newspaper El Peruano reported Friday, citing a government resolution.
The government resolved “to terminate the functions of the Minister Counselor in the Peruvian Diplomatic Service, Milagros Elena Miranda Rojas, as Consul General of Peru in Mexico City, United Mexican States,” said the report.
The move came after the Peruvian administration officially announced last month the “permanent withdrawal” of its ambassador to Mexico and reduce diplomatic relations between the two countries to the level of charge d’affaires.
At the time, Peruvian President Dina Boluarte said she rejected the repeated “unacceptable questioning” of her government by her Mexican counterpart Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.
Relations between Mexico and Peru have grown sour in recent months after the removal of former Peruvian President Pedro Castillo, whom Lopez Obrador insists is a victim of a coup by the Peruvian Congress. — NNN-XINHUA
