Candidates Nominated For Nepal’s Presidential Election

KATHMANDU, Feb 26 (NNN-XINHUA) – Leader of the Nepali Congress, Ram Chandra Poudel, and Vice Chair of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist Leninist), Subash Chandra Nembang, yesterday registered their nomination for the presidential election, to be held on Mar 9.

“We have received the candidacy of two persons, Ram Chandra Poudel and Subash Chandra Nembang, for the presidential election,” Shaligram Sharma Paudel, spokesperson for the Election Commission, said.

Other than the Nepali Congress, Poudel has the support of seven other political parties, including the CPN (Maoist Centre) and the CPN (Unified Socialist). The eight parties agreed on Friday, to support the Nepali Congress’ candidate, in the race for the country’s third president.

In contrast, Nembang is not endorsed by any other party except for the CPN-UML.

Members of the House of Representatives, the National Assembly and the seven provincial assemblies will vote on Mar 9, to elect the new president.– NNN-XINHUA
