LIMA, Feb 25 (NNN-ANDINA) — Prime Minister Alberto Otarola stressed that the ties between Peru and Japan are going through an excellent moment and being strengthened thanks to a fluid political dialogue aimed at developing shared interests.
During the ceremony on the occasion of celebrations for the birthday of Emperor Naruhito, he pointed out that Japan is a friendly country with which Peruvians share a long and fruitful friendship.This event was also attended by Foreign Affairs Minister Ana Cecilia Gervasi.
In this regard, the Cabinet chief stressed that in an uncertain, convulsed, and challenging international scenario it is necessary to redouble efforts so as to generate trust and consolidate cooperation at the bilateral and multilateral levels in order to continue working for the common and sustainable well-being.
“Peru and Japan maintain a solid and firm relationship based on shared values that include firm respect for democracy, human rights, and international law, especially international humanitarian law, as well as the promotion of an international system of open market based on clear and precise rules,” Otarola expressed.
Likewise, the Prime Minister mentioned that this year marks the 150th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Peru and Japan —being our country the first in Latin America to formalize relations with its Asian counterpart.
“Our ties are currently going through an excellent moment, being strengthened through a fluid political dialogue aimed at developing our shared interests,” he underlined.
Furthermore, the Cabinet chief indicated that Japan has become one of our main economic partners, being the third-largest destination for Peruvian exports and fourth trading partner in 2022.
Moreover, Otarola indicated that Peru aspires to welcome an increasing number of Japanese investors.
“We have officially conveyed to Japanese authorities our desire to participate in Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai, an event of global relevance that will allow us to show the best of Peru to the world, as well as to identify opportunities for our sustainable development, mainly in scientific and technological aspects,” he announced.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the fact that Japan contributes to the development of Peru through its international cooperation agency on various issues.
Along these lines, he underscored the solidarity shown by the Asian country during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the close cooperation between both nations in matters related to international security and peace. — NNN-ANDINA
