ASUNCION, Feb 22 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — Paraguay´s public and private institutions are on maximum alert in view of imminent risk of bird flu virus in the country. Yet no contagion has been reported, the government declared Tuesday.
The emergency action is in response to the announcement of bird flu cases reported in neighboring nations (Uruguay and Argentina), bringing overall Latin American nation toll to 16, as reported by the National Animal Health and Quality Service (SENACSA).
The Asuncion government and two Argentinean provinces reported at least one case of bird flu in wild birds, according to Jose Carlos Martin, SENACSA President.
“So far we are free of bird flu infection and with a regional guarantee that supports the procedure”, said Martin. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
