2 dead, 3 injured after metro train hits vehicle in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, Feb 21 (NNN-XINHUS) — Two people were killed and three others injured after a train struck a vehicle in Los Angeles, California, authorities said.

The Metro Line train collided with the vehicle in the area of Central-Alameda Monday evening, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The crash occurred just at around 6:15 p.m. on the Metro A (Blue) Line tracks near E. 24th Street and Long Beach Avenue in the Central-Alameda neighborhood.

Two were killed at the scene. Three have been sent to local hospitals in fair-to-moderate conditions, said the department in a news release, adding that 125 passengers have now exited the train without medical complaint.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

After some time, coworkers of the victims arrived at the scene and told reporters that the five victims, all men, had just gotten off of work at around 6 p.m. at a nearby soap manufacturing company.

No passengers onboard the train suffered serious injury during the crash, though one was treated at the scene for reports of back pain.

Train service is expected to be impacted for an unspecified amount of time. While the tracks remained closed, Metro provided shuttle buses to transport passengers to their intended stops. — NNN-XINHUA
