LAGOS, Feb 20 (NNN-NAN) – Nigerian police killed six gunmen yesterday, who attacked a police facility, in the southern state of Anambra, Tochukwu Ikenga, spokesperson for the police, said, in a statement.
Outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) members, attacked a police station in the early hours, yesterday, in the Oyi local government area of the state, said Ikenga. Six of them were killed and several others escaped with gunshot injuries.
One policeman was seriously wounded, he added. An office in the facility was partially damaged, by a petrol bomb thrown by the gunmen.
Joint security operations are ongoing, to track down the fleeing gunmen. The spokesperson advised the public and hospitals in the state, to report any people with gunshot wounds.
Armed attacks have been a primary security threat in parts of Nigeria, leading to deaths and kidnappings in recent months.
IPOB was listed as a terrorist organisation by the Nigerian government in 2017.– NNN-NAN
