CALLAO (Peru), Feb 19 (NNN-ANDINA) — Pres Dina Boluarte said she expects Congress to put the advancement of elections as the first topic on the next legislature’s agenda —once Parliament had not approved the proposal and instead submitted it to the Constitution Commission.
She lamented that Parliament on its last legislature day had not taken this issue into account.
“We hope that they (legislators) can put it on their agenda on the first day of the next legislature, and we can continue working and discussing this issue of advancement of elections. I think it is a request from a part of the Peruvian population, and it must be listened to,” she said at Air Group No. 8 base in Callao region.
On this occasion, Boluarte was accompanied by Defense Minister Jorge Chavez Cresta and Banco de la Nacion Executive-President Juan Carlos Galfre Garcia.
Therefore, Boluarte urged Congress to deem this “topic as number one.”
Concerning the approval of the constitutional accusation against ex-President Pedro Castillo, she said Parliament is “taking action on the matter,” adding that the Public Ministry will have the way free to investigate the alleged corruption acts of which he is accused.
Regarding the meetings with political parties, the Head of State indicated that these were held so as to find out the opinion on which country Peruvians want, where everyone must stand united to forge the homeland’s development.
“There are different opinions that we must listen to; we must listen to all those political organizations,“ she said.
Concerning the recent statements by Colombian President Gustavo Petro on Peru, Boluarte indicated that our country rejects any type of interference.
“I lament that certain presidents, and this is the case of Colombia, have (delivered) these sad statements regarding Peru and from abroad whip up the Peruvian population; we reject any type of interference; I tell him (Gustavo Petro) to dedicate himself to governing Colombia and to let us solve our own problems,” she indicated.
Regarding the declaration of intangibility of the Historic Center of Lima, by the Metropolitan Municipality, the President said it is an agreement within its powers. Yet, as the Government of the people, “the squares must be open to the population.” — NNN-ANDINA
