SUVA, Feb 17 (NNN-PINA) – Fiji and India renewed yesterday, their commitment to advancing cooperation in key areas, such as economic prosperity, climate mitigation and sustainable development.
According to a Fijian government statement, the bilateral meeting between Fijian Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka and visiting Indian Minister for External Affairs, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, yesterday afternoon, highlighted prospects for Fiji-India’s cooperation in key areas of development, notably in health, education, renewable energy, information technology, private sector development, agriculture and sugar industry.
The two countries also inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), on the exemption of Visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and official passports.
Rabuka, also Fiji’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, said that, the MOU represents a milestone achievement in building stronger connectivity for the people of both nations. It will bolster economic opportunities in trade, tourism, business and investment.
For his part, Jaishankar reiterated that India attaches great importance to its relationship with Fiji.
He also said that, India hopes to co-host the third summit of the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC) in the coming months.
Jaishankar is in Fiji for the celebration of the 12th World Hindi Conference, which promotes and celebrates the preservation of the Hindi language and culture.– NNN-PINA
