LIMA, Feb 15 (NNN-ANDINA) — Pres Dina Boluarte on Wednesday convened leaders of political parties to address the political and social crisis that the country is going through.
According to the Presidency of the Republic, the aim is also to discuss the situation of Peru in the international context, so as to promote a space for dialogue and consensus.
“In this regard, she (the President of the Republic) has extended the respective invitation to representatives of political organizations in order to hold meetings at the Government Palace headquarters,” the government agency wrote on Twitter.
Meanwhile, the Government has extended the duration of the state of emergency in the region of Lima, in the Constitutional Province of Callao, on Panamericana Sur, on Panamericana Norte, Central roads, as well as on Apurimac-Cusco-Arequipa and Interoceánica Sur corridors, for 30 calendar days, starting on Feb 14.
The National Police of Peru (PNP) will be in charge of maintaining control of internal order supported by the Armed Forces, as established by Supreme Decree 022-2023-PCM published in the Official Gazette El Peruano.
According to Article 166 of the Constitution, it is the primary duty of the National Police to guarantee, maintain, and restore internal order.
The implementation of actions provided for in the supreme decree is financed from the institutional budget of the specifications involved and from additional resource allocations authorized by the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF).
The supreme decree was signed by Pres Boluarte, Prime Minister Alberto Otarola, and the heads of the Interior, Defense, and Justice-Human Rights sectors.
Through Supreme Decree No. 009-2023-PCM, the Government declared a state of emergency for 30 calendar days, starting Jan 15, 2023 in the regions of Cusco, Lima, and Puno, and the Constitutional Province of Callao, in the province of Andahuaylas in Apurimac region, in the provinces of Tambopata and Tahuamanu in Madre de Dios region, and in the district of Torata in Moquegua region. — NNN-ANDINA
