Indian Lawmaker Suspended For Recording Parliament Proceedings

NEW DELHI, Feb 11 (NNN-PTI) – An Indian lawmaker was suspended yesterday, for the remaining part of the ongoing parliament session, for recording the proceedings of the House and putting it up on social media.

While sitting inside the parliament’s upper house, Rajya Sabha, lady lawmaker, Rajani Ashokrao Patil, who belongs to the main Opposition party, the Indian National Congress (INC), allegedly recorded Opposition lawmakers protesting against Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, while he was speaking in parliament, on Thursday.

Taking a serious view of the lawmaker’s act of filming parliament proceedings, Rajya Sabha Chairman, Jagdeep Dhankhar, suspended her for the remaining part of the parliament session.

“In public domain yesterday, on Twitter, there was a dissemination of a video relating to the proceedings of this House. Rajani Ashokrao Patil engaged in this unwholesome activity and what has been seen is a matter that must engage our attention,” Dhankhar said.

He said, the entire matter will be probed by the parliament’s Privileges Committee, and “till we have the benefit of the recommendation of the Privileges Committee for consideration in the House, Patil is suspended for the current session.”

The ongoing Budget Session is scheduled to be held in two parts. While the first half concludes on Feb 14, the second half will be held from Mar 13 till Apr 6.

The parliament proceedings are normally telecast live on TV, whenever the House is in session.– NNN-PTI
