Sri Lanka Signed Agreement With Global Green Growth Institute

COLOMBO, Feb 8 (NNN-XINHUA) – Sri Lanka, yesterday, signed a host country agreement, with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), progressing its climate action and further deepening the country’s green growth development, said the President’s Media Division (PMD).

Issuing a press release, the PMD said, the agreement was signed in the presence of Sri Lankan President, Ranil Wickremesinghe, and former United Nations Secretary-General and President of the Assembly and Chair of the Council of the GGGI, Ban Ki-moon.

The agreement enables the Sri Lankan government and the GGGI, to effectively plan and implement green growth initiatives in the country, the PMD said.

These initiatives include the implementation of an ongoing National Adaptation Plan and readiness support project, to enhance capacity and institutions, the PMD said.

Sri Lanka joined the GGGI as a member in 2019, and was elected as vice president of the assembly and vice chair of the council of GGGI in Oct, 2022, according to the PMD.

The GGGI said, it is a treaty-based international, inter-governmental organisation, dedicated to supporting and promoting strong, inclusive and sustainable economic growth in developing countries and emerging economies.– NNN-XINHUA
