HERAT, Afghanistan, Feb 7 (NNN-ANA) – Afghan counter-narcotics police, have rounded up 4,500 drug addicts from different parts of western Herat province, over the past week and sent them to the rehabilitation centre, the state-run Bakhtar news agency reported, yesterday.
The addicted persons would be reintegrated into their families after recovery, the media outlet quoted Faizuddin Rahimi, head of the provincial rehabilitation centre, as saying.
Up to 700 people have also been arrested on charges of involvement in the drug business over the period, the state-controlled media outlet said, adding that, police have destroyed 23 drug processing laboratories in the province.
“A total of 400 drug addicts are currently receiving medical treatment in Herat rehabilitation centre and we are making effort to uproot the vicious phenomenon of drug in the province,” Bakhtar quoted Rahimi as saying.
Earlier, on Jan 12, the counter-narcotics police also rounded up 3,500 drug addicts from different parts of Herat province, and sent them to the rehabilitation centre.– NNN-ANA
