SANTO DOMINGO, Feb 6 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — The Ministry of Public Health of the Dominican Republic announced that the country closed 2022 with 39 deaths due to dengue fever out of 10,784 cases, the press reported.
According to Diario Libre, the General Directorate of Epidemiology (Digepi) reported that 79% of those ill with dengue fever were between the ages of months and 19 years.
The health authorities also reported that malaria, another mosquito-borne disease, reported 335 cases and one death, and that those infected were generally in the southern part of the country, especially in the provinces of Azua and San Juan.
As for leptospirosis patients, it is estimated that 263 people acquired the disease transmitted by rat urine and caused the death of 30 citizens.
Digepi reported the presence of other diseases such as tetanus, which had 39 cases with 10 deaths; whooping cough with five patients and meningococcal disease two deaths.
And in the case of cholera, 2022 concluded with 10 infected patients, an ailment that increased this year.
