COLOMBO, Jan 31 (NNN-XINHUA) – Sri Lanka’s merchandise exports reached over 13 billion U.S. dollars in 2022, the country’s Export Development Board (EDB) said, yesterday.
This was an increase of 4.6 percent, compared to the corresponding period of 2021, the EDB said in a statement.
Apparel and textile exports increased by 9.56 percent, to over 5.9 billion dollars between Jan and Dec, compared to the same period in 2021, the EDB said.
Meanwhile, earnings from the export of electrical and electronic components increased by 14.68 percent to 483 million dollars, compared to 2021.
However, export earnings from seafood decreased by 1.81 percent to 269 million dollars, and earnings from tea declined by 4.95 percent to about 1.2 billion dollars in 2022.
Earnings from rubber and rubber finished products decreased 6.79 percent, to about one billion dollars.
Export earnings from coconut and coconut-based products recorded a decrease of 2.27 percent, to 817 million dollars.
Sri Lanka’s merchandise exports earned 12.48 billion dollars in 2021, according to data from the EDB.– NNN-XINHUA
