CIENFUEGOS (Cuba), Jan 29 (NNN-ACN) — The 5th Edition of the Latin American Monologue Festival will take place in the province of Cienfuegos on Feb 9-12, with the participation of theatrical casts and experts from five countries of the continent.
The event will feature eight foreign groups made up of artists from Brazil, Mexico, Uruguay, Puerto Rico and Costa Rica, in addition to a jury from Spain.
Miguel Cañellas Sueiras, director of the emblematic Tomas Terry Theater, told the Cuban News Agency that Mexico’s Alexander Guerrero, a great friend of Cuba and a man of great artistic interests, is a repeat guest at the event.
On this occasion, the event will present plays on complex issues such as gender violence and other social problems in Cuba and will be held at the renowned theater.
This meeting has a primary objective: to provide the city of Cienfuegos with a theatrical program of excellence that moves the public to the different spaces and halls of the locality, in addition to drawing attention to this genre and creating an easily accessible dramaturgy for actors and theater directors, said the director.
In the present year the festival reaches its 10th anniversary, since this event took place for the first time in 2002 with outstanding national groups and years later extended its format due to the demand of some foreign artists who were interested in participating, and thus includes the monologue created in Latin America.
This will be a cultural space where talent from different parts of Latin America will gather and revitalize the art of Cuban theater in a perfect harmony between artists and audience. — NNN-ACN
