Heavy Snow Warning Issued Across Central S. Korea

SEOUL, Jan 26 (NNN-YONHAP) – A heavy snow advisory was issued today across the central regions of South Korea, leading to flight cancellations and frozen water meters.

The warning for heavy snowfall came into effect in the capital, Seoul, its surrounding Gyeonggi province, the western port city of Incheon, the eastern Gangwon province, and the central Chungcheong province.

The heavy snow watch is announced, when the snowfall is expected to reach over five cm within 24 hours.

As of 11:00 a.m. local time (0200 GMT), five flights were cancelled, and entry to three national parks was restricted.

A total of 524 cases of water meters frozen and burst were reported in Seoul and Incheon, while 16 other cases of frozen water pipes were registered in Gyeonggi province and North Gyeongsang province.

It was snowing one to three cm per hour across the central regions.

The heavy snow, which started overnight Wednesday, was forecast to stop late this afternoon, beginning with the Seoul metropolitan area, but the snow was expected to continue into early Friday or Friday night in the southern regions.– NNN-YONHAP
