MUSCAT, Oman, April 17 (NNN-ONA) – Minerals Development Oman (MDO), the Sultanate’s mining investment flagship, signed a joint venture agreement with Oman’s Assarain Group, for the joint development of a new gabbro (a coarse-grained, dark-coloured, intrusive igneous rock) concession in Liwa.

The signing took place at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC), on the sidelines of Oman Mining Expo, which opened on Monday in Oman’s capital city of Muscat.

Located in Liwa in North Al Batinah Governorate, the Liwa gabbro project covers an area of about two sq km.

The mineable quantity of the project is estimated at 211 million tonnes, with a production of five million tonnes per annum. Gabbro is a material used in the building and construction sector.

Nasser Maqbali, CEO of MDO, said, “This agreement will be another stepping stone for MDO, as a facilitator and enabler in developing the mining sector in Oman.”– NNN-ONA
