COLOMBO, Jan 15 (NNN-XINHUA) – Sri Lankan migrant workers remitted 475.6 million U.S. dollars in Dec, 2022, Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment, Manusha Nanayakkara said, yesterday.
This was a 46 percent increase from Dec, 2021, during which workers sent 325.2 million dollars, the minister told media.
However, in 2022 Sri Lankan workers remitted 31 percent less money than in 2021, according to Central Bank data.
In 2021, Sri Lankan workers sent 5.49 billion dollars, and only remitted around 3.8 billion dollars in 2022, the data revealed.
Workers’ remittance is one of main sources of foreign revenues for Sri Lanka.– NNN-XINHUA
