Latin American journalists condemn the coup attempt in Brazil

BUENOS AIRES, Jan 13 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — The Latin American Federation of Journalists (Felap) and the Union of Press Workers of Buenos Aires (Utpba), Argentina, condemned the coup attempt perpetrated in Brazil last Sunday.

Thousands of followers of former President Jair Bolsonaro invaded and destroyed the headquarters of the National Congress, the Supreme Court of Justice and the Planalto Palace in the South American giant.

The violent attack on these institutions by demonstrators organized around fascist ideas ignores the electoral triumph of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, said a statement from Felap and Utpba.

In addition, the journalists recalled that the demonstrators urged the Brazilian Armed Forces to remove the head of state to impose the return of their leader, Bolsonaro.

We repudiate what happened and the strategic destabilization plan with which fascism threatens the entire region, the journalists added.

On the other hand, Felap expressed its solidarity with the members of the Unitary Union of Journalism and Social Communication Workers of Peru and asked organizations of the sector in Latin America to denounce the abuses that occurred in that country against protesters who demand the restoration of democratic order. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
