HANOI, Jan 7 (NNN-VNA) – Vietnam sent more than 142,000 labourers abroad, to work under contract last year, mostly to Japan, China’s Taiwan and South Korea, local media cited the country’s Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, as reporting, yesterday.
The number was three times 2021’s figure and surpassed the target set for the year, which stood at 90,000, local newspaper, Tuoi Tre (Youth) reported, citing the ministry’s Department of Overseas Labour.
The report said, Japan was the top destination for local workers, with more than 67,000, followed by China’s Taiwan with nearly 58,600, and South Korea with approximately 10,000, adding that, the total number of companies licensed for sending labourers overseas was 456.
The figure in 2022 was still lower than in 2019 (the pre-pandemic period), which hit 147,000 workers.– NNN-VNA
