VIENTIANE, Jan 5 (NNN-KPL) – A total of 26 people were killed in road accidents in Laos, over five days of new year celebrations, down 17 deaths from the same period last year.
Some 311 people were injured and 323 vehicles damaged, in 190 road accidents across the country, with the majority of the accidents caused by drunk-driving, local media reported, yesterday.
The Lao capital, Vientiane, reported the highest number of road accidents at 26, with five deaths, followed by Savannakhet with 22 accidents and also five deaths.
A total of 19 road accidents were reported in Luang Prabang province, and 14 cases were recorded in Bolikhamxay province.
Last year, 43 people were killed in 197 road accidents in Laos during five-day new year celebrations. Most road accidents occurred due to drunk-driving and overspeeding.– NNN-KPL
