India, Pakistan Exchanged List Of Prisoners

NEW DELHI, Jan 2 (NNN-PTI) – India and Pakistan exchanged yesterday, a list of civilian prisoners and fishermen, detained in each other’s jails, officials said.

The exchange was carried out through diplomatic channels, simultaneously, in New Delhi and Islamabad, India’s foreign ministry said.

“India shared lists of 339 Pakistani civilian prisoners and 95 Pakistani fishermen, currently in Indian custody. Similarly, Pakistan has shared lists of 51 civilian prisoners and 654 fishermen in its custody, who are Indians or are believed to be Indians,” the ministry said in a statement.

According to the ministry, the exchange was done in keeping with the provisions of a 2008 agreement under which such lists are exchanged every year on Jan 1 and July 1.– NNN-PTI
