BRASILIA, Jan 2 (NNN-ANDINA) — Peruvian Prime Minister Alberto Otarola and Foreign Affairs Minister Ana Cecilia Gervasi conveyed President Dina Boluarte‘s congratulatory message to Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on his inauguration as Brazilian President.

The ceremony took place on Sunday at the Planalto Palace in Brasilia.

Thus, the Peruvian authorities reaffirmed their intention to strengthen the strategic partner relationship between Brazil and Peru, as part of the South American integration process.

Otarola emphasized that Brazil is Peru’s most important trading partner, noting that it is important to strengthen economic ties with said country, as well as to reinforce an agenda involving small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), e-commerce, among other aspects.

Within this framework, Otarola expressed his desire to strengthen economic ties between the two countries, as well as union and solidarity relations.

We have come to express and reaffirm the bonds of union and solidarity between the Government of all Peruvians and the Brazilian Government,” he stated.

Similarly, the Peruvian Prime Minister pointed out that Brazil is Peru’s main trading partner.

We are going to relaunch an agreement to deepen economic and commercial ties with this country, particularly with regard to SMEs, electronic commerce, among other issues. The idea is to strengthen the commercial economic relationship with Brazil so as to diversify bilateral trade,” he said.

In this regard, the government official highlighted that trade between Peru and Brazil amounted to US$4.5 billion in 2022.

The Brazilian market is very important for the export perspective in Peru. We are going to work with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other sectors to consolidate our ties,” the Cabinet chief remarked.

On the other hand, Otarola mentioned that the high-level Peruvian delegation in Brazil is explaining the political process that Peru is going through.

This action, he said, aims to build ties of brotherhood with other countries, especially in the region of the Americas.

We seek to open a new stage, a stage of reconciliation, of understanding on the international front,” the high-ranking official said before expressing satisfaction with the democratic process in the neighboring country.

The high-level delegation fulfills an agenda of bilateral meetings in Brazil. Otarola, accompanied by Gervasi, met with U.S. National Security Council Director for Western Hemisphere Affairs of the United States Juan Gonzalez, who reiterated the support of his government to President Dina Boluarte and to Peruvian democracy. — NNN-ANDINA
