CUSCO (Peru), Dec 31 (NNN-ANDINA) — Pres Dina Boluarte affirmed from Cusco that she and Executive Branch members will continue to travel across Peru to achieve development and peace in the homeland.
Boluarte arrived in Peru’s southern Cusco region where she met with the journalists’ guild from this area.
At the event, the Head of State indicated that, when she officially became President on Dec 7, she pointed out that her administration will be open to dialogue and have its doors open for work and development.
Prior to that statement, the top official deplored the violence occurred during the protests that arose in said context.
“When did I say that we are going to turn our backs on people’s needs? When did I say that I do not want to work hand-in-hand with you? Quite the contrary, here I am, and we will continue to travel across the country, but we must seek to live in peace with one another and seek the homeland’s development,” she expressed.
In this sense, President Boluarte stated that she wishes to meet with the leaders of those who, with fair reason, have come out to protest over unmet needs and wants to work hand-in-hand with them.
After expressing her sorrow for the deaths that occurred during these events, the top official reminded citizens that those who protest have the right to do so but cannot take over the streets, since blockades affect the rights of others to free movement and work.
Furthermore, Boluarte asked Puno region’s population not to be carried away by violence and to ignore “separatist messages” that come from the outside. Instead, she called on them to build a united homeland.
“Hunger has no political color; poverty has no ideology. I am a woman from the left, indeed. However, I am the President of 33 million Peruvians, and all of us must work (together) to move our country forward,” she stated.
Boluarte said her administration had submitted a bill to Parliament to bring the elections forward to April 2024, since this deadline allows time to carry out political reforms and hold suitable elections.
“Congress has already said in a first voting (session) it agrees. We hope that these early elections proposal will be ratified in the second voting (session),” she expressed.
The Head of State indicated that she is taking up duties responsibly until said term, once again explaining that she had nothing to do with the events that led ex-President Pedro Castillo to attempt a coup d’état when he was in office.
“Now I am here, and I want to be calm and at peace to seek the development of the country,” she underlined.
As is known, Boluarte officially became President of the Republic on Dec 7 after ex-President Pedro Castillo was constitutionally impeached and removed from office by Parliament. — NNN-ANDINA
