Tehran’s Police Arrested 96 Illegal Currency Dealers

TEHRAN, Dec 30 (NNN-TASNIM) – The economic security police of Tehran, announced the arrest of 96 illegal currency dealers, in the currency market of the Iranian capital, yesterday.

A total of 96 currency dealers were identified illegal and arrested during the operation, with illegal currencies worth 118,000 U.S. dollars seized from the arrested dealers, said the plice chief, Hedayat Bahrami.

“The plan will continue until calm is restored to the currency market,” he said.

Any purchase and sale of currency outside the authorised banks and exchange centres is prohibited, Bahrami warned.

One U.S. dollar was traded for 415,000 Iranian rials in the street market yesterday, meaning, a loss of about 25 percent of rial’s value compared to the market rates in Sept.–NNN-TASNIM
