LIMA, Dec 30 (NNN-ANDINA) — Pres Dina Boluarte spoke with her Ecuadorian counterpart, Guillermo Lasso, over the phone to thank him for his support towards the presidential transition and rule of law in Peru.

Likewise, the Head of State expressed appreciation for Lasso’s willingness to promote regional support towards the democratic process and the 2024 general elections.

During the phone conversation, Boluarte was accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister Ana Cecilia Gervasi.

On Dec 12, the President of the Republic proposed bringing general elections forward to April 2024, and sent a constitutional reform to Congress to that end.

On Dec 20, during a plenary session, Parliament approved the substitute text, which includes the proposal of the Executive Branch to bring the general elections forward as well as to reduce the presidential and congressional terms in office.

The reform text approved that day will be the subject of debate and a second voting session in the next ordinary legislature. — NNN-ANDINA
