Seven Killed In Car Ramming Incident In Southern Nigeria

LAGOS, Dec 28 (NNN-NAN) – At least seven people were killed and 29 others injured, after a car rammed into a crowd of people, at a carnival gathering in southern Nigeria’s Cross River state yesterday, an official said.

The accident happened during the annual Calabar Carnival, a large street party in the state capital city of Calabar, when a Toyota Camry car lost control and rammed into the crowd of onlookers, Maikano Hassan, head of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Cross River state, said.

Seven people lost their lives on the spot, while the injured had been taken to a local hospital for treatment, Hassan said, adding, the carnival activities for the day were suspended after the incident.

State Governor, Ben Ayade expressed his sadness over the incident, saying, he had ordered an immediate investigation into the incident and directed security agencies to apprehend the motorist who was on the run.– NNN-NAN
