BRASILIA, Dec 27 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva called for tranquility and peace in Brazil, regarding the commotion caused by the arrest of a supporter of President Jair Bolsonaro accused of terrorism.
“That is our commitment: to make the country smile again, to have peace of mind again,” says the founder of the Workers’ Party in a video shared and amplified by various platforms.
Lula insists in the audiovisual that the country needs “to have the competence to recover that thing called fraternity, that thing called solidarity, that thing called love.”
Such publication emerged after a terrorist attempt, when at Christmas businessman George Washington de Oliveira Sousa, 54 years old and a supporter of Bolsonaro, tried to explode a bomb near the international airport of Brasilia.
The criminal arrested with means of war confessed he intended to perpetrate the attack by exploding a fuel tanker truck during Lula’s assumption as President, scheduled for Jan 1.
“Prepared to kill or be killed,” said the Bolsonaro supporter, who was transferred to a maximum security prison near the Federal District.
In the midst of this fact, the police also found this Sunday another arsenal in Gama, the administrative region of Brasilia.
There were, among the items found, ballistic vests and capes. The bomb squad of the Special Operations Battalion went to the place to carry out technical procedures and controlled the detonation of the material. After the violent episodes, the future Minister of Justice and Public Security, Flávio Dino, affirmed that the security scheme for Lula’s assumption will be reviewed and reinforced.
“All procedures will be reassessed to strengthen security. And the fight against terrorists and rioters will be intensified. Democracy won and will win,” he wrote on social media.
Since Lula defeated Bolsonaro in the second round of suffrage on Oct 30, radical supporters of the former military officer have taken to the streets and gathered in front of Army barracks to call for a coup that prevents the investiture of the mechanical extortionist, who for the third time time will embrace power.
The PT leader will take office on Sunday in a ceremony at the Planalto Palace, headquarters of the Executive Power in Brasilia, to which 17 heads of State or Government confirmed attendance. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
