Five Daesh Militants Killed In Airstrike In N. Iraq

BAGHDAD, Dec 22 (NNN-NINA) – Five Daesh militants were killed yesterday, in an airstrike in a mountainous area of Iraq’s northern province of Nineveh, the Iraqi military said.

Acting on information from the Iraqi Counter Terrorism Service, aircraft bombarded a Daesh hideout in the Sheikh Ibrahim Mountain, near the town of Tal Afar, some 70 km west of the provincial capital, Mosul, Yahia Rasoul, spokesman of the commander-in-chief of the Iraqi forces, said in a statement.

A Daesh leader was among the five militants killed in the airstrike, according to Rasoul.

Meanwhile, Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani, held a meeting with top military commanders, to discuss the recent security developments in the provinces of Kirkuk and Diyala, where the militants carried out two deadly attacks against security forces and civilians, according to a statement by al-Sudani’s media office.

Al-Sudani demanded a comprehensive reassessment of the plans drawn up against the terrorist remnants, and a change of military tactics used in the areas.

On Sunday, the Daesh militants detonated at least two roadside bombs near a Federal Police patrol, in the northern province of Kirkuk, killing eight policemen.

On Monday, the militant group attacked civilians outside a village in the eastern province of Diyala, killing eight and wounding seven others.

Over the past months, Iraqi security forces have conducted operations against extremist militants to crack down on their intensified activities.– NNN-NINA
