COLOMBO, Dec 18 (NNN-XINHUA) – Sri Lankan police said yesterday that, over 90,000 people have been arrested, so far this year, over drug-related offenses.
Police spokesman, Nihal Thalduwa, said that, among the arrested suspects, 45,801 were apprehended over heroin-related violations and 1,441 kilos of heroin were confiscated.
The spokesman said, 34,062 were arrested for possession of cannabis, with 11,881 kilos of cannabis being confiscated.
Some 109 kilos of crystal methamphetamine were confiscated with 10,532 being arrested, he added.– NNN-XINHUA
