HAVANA, Dec 12 (NNN-ACN) — Cuban president Miguel Díaz-Canel received a delegation of U.S. congressmen visiting the island on Saturday.
“I received a delegation from the US Congress chaired by James McGovern. We addressed our differences and issues of common interest. The shared will to improve bilateral relations was ratified. I expressed the need to put an end to measures that harm the Cuban population,” the president wrote on Twitter.
Cuba’s Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez, also told the U.S. congressional delegation about the severe impact of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the U.S. against his country.
From his Twitter profile, the Foreign Affairs Minister described as open and respectful the dialogue held with this group of representatives, led by Democratic Congressman James McGovern from the state of Massachusetts.
According to Rodriguez, in the meeting both parties noted the interest in advancing towards a constructive relationship between the two countries.
These legislators talked on Friday at the National Capitol with the chairman of the Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee, José Luis Toledo, and the Health and Sports Committee, Estela Luna, as well as with the president of the People’s Supreme Court, Rubén Remigio, among other members of the Council of State.
The visiting delegation also included members of the U.S. House of Representatives Mark Pocan and Troy Anthony Carter. — NNN-ACN
