BERLIN, Dec 9 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — German authorities admitted more possible arrests of members of the far-right Reichsburger group, suspected of preparing a coup d’état in the country, the public broadcaster NDR reported.
According to Georg Meyer, a senior security official in the federal state of Thuringia, the second wave of arrests is likely to follow, as investigating authorities are still examining the evidence.
Meyer accused the far-right Alternative for Germany political party, which includes one of those arrested, Birgit Winkemann, of fueling conspiracy theories.
However, the party itself condemned the coup plot allegedly planned by the far-right group.
On the eve of large-scale raids against the far-right in Germany, more than 20 people were arrested.
German prosecutors claimed that the suspects allegedly set up a terrorist organization last year with the aim of overthrowing the existing State system and replacing it with their own form of State, which was already in the process of being created.
The department added that this group was led by Heinrich P.R., 71, and Rüdiger V.P., 69.
According to the Spiegel daily, the former is a member of a noble family and the latter is a former paratrooper.
Authorities suggest that the group planned to attack the Bundestag (German parliament) building, take members of parliament hostage and attack power plants to cause power outages in order to undermine the position of the current Government, create the conditions for a civil war, overthrow the federal Government and seize power. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
