HAVANA, Dec 9 (NNN-ACN) — President Miguel Diaz-Canel’s recent tour of several Caribbean nations has been exciting and very significant for relations between the Caribbean and Cuba, said Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez.
This tour treasures very important emotions, said Rodriguez while speaking with the press team of the Presidency at Grenada’s Maurice Bishop international airport, just before departing for Cuba along the head of state.
Diaz-Canel and his delegation visited Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Barbados and Grenada and took part at the 8th Summit of the Caribbean Community and Cuba.
These visits allowed Cuba to express its huge acknowledgement of all Caribbean nations and its commitment to keep expanding and deepening bilateral cooperation, Rodriguez noted.
The Cuban foreign minister described the 8th Caricom-Cuba summit as extraordinary, which acknowledged bilateral cooperation and called for the lifting of the US economic, commercial and financial blockade of Cuba and for the withdrawal of the island nation from the US list of countries sponsors of terrorism.
Cuba extended its gratitude for the permanent support and cooperation for mutual learning and benefit, said Rodriguez and noted that the visits to the three sister Caribbean nations allowed to corroborate—as President Diaz-Canel has explained—the enormous significance of the legacy of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro, the leadership and guidance of Army General Raul Castro.
Bruno also said that the three visits evidenced the acknowledged contribution by President Diaz-Canel to the foundational legacy of bilateral relations, which date back to 1972 based on a valiant decision of four leaders in key Caribbean countries in defiance of the US isolation-oriented policy of the United States against Cuba.
A permanent factor in all thee visits was mutual solidarity as the only way to for South countries and in particular for the integration of Latin America and the Caribbean and for the integration of Cuba in the Caribbean region, said the Cuban government official. — NNN-ACN
