LIMA, Dec 9 (NNN-ANDINA) — President Dina Boluarte on Thursday affirmed that her assumption of the Peruvian Presidency provides an opportunity to change the country’s direction.

In addition, the Head of State stressed the need to strengthen dialogue among Peruvians, after reiterating her request for a truce to organize the Government.

In statements to the press delivered at the Government Palace’s Courtyard of Honor, the country’s top official asked the media for a truce to organize the Presidential Office, so as to deliver first-hand news.

“I think that the assumption of the Presidency of the Republic —on this occasion— sort of involves a change in what needs to be done in the country,” Boluarte remarked.

“Later, in coordination with all the organizations, we will be looking at alternatives for a better change in the country’s destiny,” she added.

In this regard, the new President of Peru explained that there are those who are asking for the holding of general elections, noting that such opinions are democratically respectable.

On the other hand, the President of the Republic affirmed that she does not have the name of the Prime Minister yet.
Likewise, she remarked that the relations with countries in the region will continue to be the most suitable and harmonized.

Meanwhile, the Judiciary Branch (PJ) has ordered seven days of pre-trial detention for ex-President Pedro Castillo.

The Supreme Court of Preparatory Investigation, led by Judge Juan Carlos Checkley, ordered seven days of pre-trial detention for ex-President Pedro Castillo, who is being investigated for the crime of rebellion (and conspiracy),” the PJ said on its Twitter account.

The magistrate’s resolution also provides that the judicial detention term will be in force from December 7 to 13, 2022.

Thus, the Judiciary ratifies the request made by the Public Ministry to order his pre-trial detention on suspicion of committing a crime against state power and constitutional order, in the form of rebellion, to the detriment of the State.

In addition, the pre-trial detention is for committing the crime of conspiracy against the State. Both crimes are set out and punished in articles 346 and 349 of the Criminal Code.

At the hearing held Thursday morning, Deputy Supreme Prosecutor Marco Huaman supported the position of the Public Ministry, noting that Castillo Terrones was caught in flagrante delicto and that his detention was conducted by the National Police after he left the Government Palace.

Moreover, Huaman explained that the pre-trial detention is based on the fact that, while at liberty, the ex-President could contact people who could hide or destroy elements of conviction. — NNN-ANDINA
