HAVANA, Dec 5 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — Manifold voices in Cuba on Sunday strongly rejected Cuba´s inclusion in a punitive US list on religious freedom.

In social media, Cubans expressed their condemnation of the arbitrary list and claimed that religious institutions in Cuba have the right to practice their beliefs in accordance with the country´s Law and respect among all.

On Friday, Cuba and Nicaragua were included in a list of States that, in the U.S. government´s view, systematically violate religious freedom, which entails possible sanctions against these two States.

In this regard, Cuba´s Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez posted on Twitter that the inclusion of Cuba “in arbitrary listing shows that the U.S. government once afresh needs to resort to dishonest accusations to keep an unsustainable policy of abuse against the Cuban people”.

Several messages on on Sunday have reaffirmed the rights of religious communities in Cuba and expressed their strong rejection to the inclusion of Cuba in a US list on nations where religious freedom is allegedly violated.

Deputy Caridad Diego, head of the Religious Affairs Department at the Central Committee of the Communist Party (CCPCC), said on Twitter that inter-faith institutions in Cuba enjoy the right to practice their beliefs, in accordance with Cuba´s Law and respect among all.

She added that believers and non-believers participate in the society development as part of the people they belong to, and also assured that this sector has organized many activities as part of the religious freedom the Cuban Constitution endorses.

“We reject the inclusion of Cuba in that arbitrary list in which the U.S. government included us,” she emphasized.

In response to her tweet, the Quisicuaba Project likewise condemned Washington’s stance and pointed out that Cuba has a secular state that guarantees religious freedom and has never attacked any manifestation of Faith. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
