Peru: Nearly 7 million voters return to polls to elect governors in 9 regions

LIMA, Dec 5 (NNN-ANDINA) — A total of 6,892,945 voters are eligible to vote Sunday, Dec, in the election of governors and lieutenant governors in nine regions across the country: Amazonas, Cajamarca, Callao, Cusco, Lambayeque, Lima Provinces, Moquegua, Pasco, and Piura, according to the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE).

The electoral body reported that 27 Decentralized Electoral Process Offices (ODPEs) have been set up nationwide to organize this election.

Moreover, the ONPE stated that said offices will set up 23,578 polling stations within 3,468 polling places situated in 615 districts across nine regions.

Nine governors and nine lieutenant governors will be elected today, which is why the ONPE distributed —between Nov 17 and 26— the electoral material to the ODPEs in the aforementioned regions.

The deployment of the electoral material for the electoral process in Callao took place on Dec 2.

It should be noted that the electoral body has set up polling stations in 479 population centers nationwide, thus facilitating the voting of 388,836 people, who will no longer have to make long and expensive trips to cast their vote.

Moreover, 5,969 Braille templates have been distributed to the nine regions, so that people with visual disabilities can vote without difficulty.

Likewise, preferential treatment will be given to people with disabilities, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with children. — NNN-ANDINA
