SAN SALVADOR, Dec 3 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — El Salvador has reported an increase in Covid-19-related deaths in the last few weeks, as 36 deaths were reported in November, authorities said on Friday.

Sources from the Ministry of Health (MINSAL) reported 36 deaths, 18 of which occurred in the last week of November, when the sixth wave hit the population, especially the elderly, hard.

According to statistics, November was the fifth deadliest month due to the pandemic, surpassing August, when 25 deaths were reported.

February was the deadliest month this year when patients died every day due to the pandemic after 166 deaths were reported, followed by January with 84, July with 51, and March with 45 deaths.

According to Jorge Panameño, a doctor specialized in infectious diseases, the number of Covid-19 accounted for 60 percent, mostly after suffering two to four episodes before the last contagion.

SANTO DOMINGO: Authorities of the Ministry of Public Health of the Dominican Republic suggested to the population, to resume face masks wearing, as an increase of Covid-19 cases and other respiratory viruses were reported

It was also due to the proximity of the Christmas holidays that, as usual, involve social and family gatherings.

Authorities also urged to observe the recommended guidelines on hand washing, hygiene, social distancing, and completing vaccination schemes.

According to Eladio Pérez, Deputy Minister of Collective Health, and Director of Epidemiology, Dr. Ronald Skewes, the recommendation to wear facemasks was removed in the country, but not compulsorily. It remained a voluntary and personal decision on self-care.

Perez pointed out that face masks and vaccination are the most effective measures to fight Covid-19. The virus’ behavior indicates that it will long remain among the population, with peaks of the disease in susceptible people, as occurs with influenza. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
